Andrew Morris Head of Fundraising at Velindre added: “We were delighted to welcome Horwich Farrelly into Velindre to receive their incredibly generous donation of £4,000. Velindre, the Hospital of Hope, is the major provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales and access to radiotherapy is critical to improving patient outcomes for cancer.
Horwich Farrelly, leading specialist insurance law firm, entered the world of the movies when it welcomed the cast and crew of a new BBC film, Dream Horse, to its offices in Cardiff for filming. The firm donated the £4,000 location fee to the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff which offers specialist cancer treatment to over 1.5 million people across South East Wales and beyond.

Due to hit cinemas next year, Dream Horse is based on the true story of a cleaner and barmaid – played by Toni Collette – who convinces people in her small Welsh village to join a racing syndicate. Damian Lewis, who plays the local accountant, brought some Hollywood glamour to Horwich Farrelly when he filmed scenes at the firm’s offices, which overlook Cardiff’s iconic Principality Stadium.
“It was great to be able to provide the location for some of the scenes in Dream Horse”, explained Simon Curtis, Partner, Horwich Farrelly. “We loved welcoming the crew and cast to our offices and were delighted to support local film-making. But whilst we were all excited to get our 15 minutes of fame, we were even more pleased to be able to donate the BBC’s location fee to Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff. Velindre have provided care and treatment to friends and family of a number of our colleagues, so we felt it would only be right to donate the fee to the charity as a small way of giving back.”

“By 2020 one in two of us will develop cancer and 150,000 people will be living with a current or previous diagnosis of this disease. However as Velindre staff strive every day to deliver the best cancer services through exceptional care, more people than ever are living with cancer. Survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years through better treatments and earlier detection.
“Donations to Velindre are used to fund things over and above those provided by the NHS, so support from companies like Horwich Farrelly really does make a huge difference to patients and their families.”
